We are home!

It has been a long week, but we are very thankful that Jennie, Mason, and Greyson are all resting at home now.  Thanks for all your prayers and support.

Better day! Picture says it all!

This is the first time that both boys have been held together.  Mason had his chest tube, IV, feeding tube, and oxygen cannula removed today.  He is doing great!  If all goes well tonight, we may all go home tomorrow afternoon!  Praise God!
Jennie had a rough day/night. She had headaches, heart palpitations, dizziness, hot flashes, and felt like she would pass out a few times.  Her BP shot up to 178/102 and her heart was beating really fast (160 bpm). They called in a rapid response team and swarmed all around with EKG equipment. She is still feeling bad today, although not as bad as last night. She will be in the hospital at least another day. She does not feel like visitors right now, but she appreciates your prayers.  Hopefully she will get to go home tomorrow.

Mason is doing better.  The x-ray this morning showed that the air is almost out of his chest.  They took out the chest tube after clamping it for several hours.  This is an important step in his recovery.  He is also eating from a bottle now instead of a feeding tube.

Greyson's x-ray showed no pneumothorax today, so he is cleared to go home tomorrow if all goes well.

Mason and Greyson had a good night and are resting peacefully.  Greyson is eating well and lets us know when he is hungry.  Mason has been on just a small amount of oxygen (25%) for about 12 hours now.  We breathe 21% in a normal room, so he is doing pretty well.  He has needed 100% a few times over the last few days.  X-rays this morning show both still have a pneumothorax, but the amount of air outside the lungs is manageable.  Jennie is doing better today and will hopefully make it over to see the boys this afternoon.

Jennie says thanks to everyone for all the prayers, calls, emails, texts, and flowers.  She feels bad about not being able to respond to everyone personally, but she is encouraged by the support, and she looks forward to catching up with everyone soon!

Welcome Mason and Greyson!

We have been blessed with two wonderful baby boys! Mason Luckie Waters was born at 6:37 AM on Monday, April 18, 2011 he was 5 pounds 10 ounces and 17.5 inches long. Greyson Miller Waters was born at 6:38 AM and was 5 pounds 13 ounces and 18.5 inches long. They were almost 36 weeks along.

Immediately after birth, Mason had a pneumothorax or collapsed lung. He was taken to the NICU (intensive care). Mason was diagnosed almost immediately and the doctors and nurses started taking steps to relieve the air pressure in his chest. They first tried a needle, which got the air out, but it quickly returned. The next step was a chest tube, which was inserted by cutting a small incision between two ribs. The tube helped, but it became clogged and had to be replaced by a larger one on Wednesday. As of Wednesday night, he is resting peacefully. We need for the air to stay out of his chest, so the hole in his lung will heal, and the lung will reattach in the correct spot.
Greyson was sent to the room with us after birth, but he also made a trip to the NICU soon after birth for some mild breathing distress and low temperature. He was released for most of Wednesday, but then had to go back due to some fast breathing. A chest x-ray Wednesday evening revealed a small pneumothorax, which the doctors hope will heal on its own, without a tube.

Jennie had a C-section, and she is in quite a bit of pain. She is not able to see or hold the boys as often as she would like because they are in another building.

If all goes well, Jennie and Greyson could be released this week, and Mason could be released sometime next week.

We really appreciate all the prayers and support! I will try to post updates here as things progress.

Thanks! Matt
